Case History
Palau
Port authority use of FoamFlex following the sinking of a tourist vessel.
AREA
CHALLENGE
The Palau port authority used FF following the sinking of a tourist boat that released polluting oils into the port, putting the surrounding ecosystem at serious risk. The risk was averted thanks to the promptness of intervention of the fire brigade and the correct emergency supply provided to the port.
Palau, one of Sardinia's gems, experienced a tense moment in November 2021. A fire on a large vessel caused a massive diesel spill in its harbor, threatening the marine ecosystem and natural beauty of the area. The situation could have had serious environmental and tourism repercussions for the region.
However, early intervention and the use of FoamFlex, along with containment barriers, made all the difference. This combination allowed the polluting oils to be isolated and recovered, protecting the harbor water from further contamination.
Conventional alternatives, such as regular absorbent mats, would have generated a significant amount of waste. These materials, once saturated with hydrocarbon, would have needed disposal, increasing the environmental burden and management costs. Similarly, the use of suction pumps would have resulted in the absorption of large amounts of water along with the hydrocarbon, further complicating the disposal process.
THE SOLUTION
T1 Piezometer
The use of T1 Solutions' products once again demonstrated its superiority. FoamFlex, not only effectively absorbed the spilled diesel but also enabled efficient and sustainable recovery. After wringing, port authorities only had to dispose of the hydrocarbon, significantly reducing the environmental impact. Another important benefit is the reusability of FoamFlex wipes, representing a long-term investment for the authorities and ensuring a prompt response in case of future incidents.
