CHALLENGE
The Brescia NBCR group was supported by the fire brigade with FF to contain an oil spill in Lake Garda. Identifying the cause of the spill and intervening with the correct solution was the reason why the leak from a diesel tank was contained and the surrounding ecosystem remained intact.
In September 2018, the waters of Lake Garda were threatened by a potential environmental disaster. An incident, seemingly trivial but with possible serious consequences, took place when a diesel tank was not properly closed. This negligence led to the expansion of hydrocarbon into a nearby irrigation ditch, which had a direct path to the lake, putting the lake ecosystem and water quality at risk.
The amount of diesel fuel spilled amounted to about 2,000 liters. This large amount could have had a devastating impact on the lake's flora and fauna, not to mention the possible repercussions on tourism and recreational activities, which are vital to the local economy.
The proximity of the canal to Lake Garda has made the situation particularly critical. Lake Garda, with its natural beauty and historical importance, is one of Italy's main tourist attractions and an invaluable natural heritage.
THE SOLUTION

T1 Piezometer
Fortunately, the prompt response of local authorities and emergency teams played a fundamental role in managing the situation. Thanks to them, timely measures were taken to contain and remove the hydrocarbon, preventing a larger environmental damage. This incident underscored the importance of being prepared for emergencies with suitable FoamFlex equipment and continuous training to prevent and manage emergency situations.
